Several weeks ago, the news broke that the Distributor that Silver Leaf Books worked with shut the doors and went out of business. Although the impact was quickly felt by a loss in sales and books for all orders this calendar year, the past few weeks have been proving that ordering our books has also become increasingly difficult.

Prior to making the agreement with this Distributor, Silver Leaf Books had both an arrangement with Baker & Taylor, the wholesaler, as well as with retail stores directly. As part of our agreement, many of these relationships had to be turned over so that the industry had a single point of contact. As a result, stores that have always carried our books are now telling readers that they are unable to order the books. This was apparent when a book signing for author Stuart Clark was cancelled because one of the stores who always purchased from us indicated that they could no longer receive the books.

In the Interim, Silver Leaf Books still has its agreement in place with Baker & Taylor books, and bookstores interested in purchasing our titles can do so either through them or directly through us. Our online store is also up and running for all readers interested in purchasing any of our titles or products.

We are actively working to reestablish our presence in the industry, removing all indications to order books through the old Distributor, and replacing that with new relationships. However, we had no warning that this was coming, so this process is taking time. All of us here at Silver Leaf Books view this as potentially a tremendous opportunity to truly explore more effective avenues of distribution and availability of our titles.

While this process is underway, we are exploring the possibility of delaying our February releases (Clifford B. Bowyer's The Apprentice of Zoldex, Book 8 of The Adventures of Kyria; and Mike Lynch and Brandon Barr's When the Sky Fell). Once we definitively know when these titles, and all of our 2008 releases will be coming out, we shall post a formal announcement.
