The Adventures of Kyria: The Shard of Time Book Review - Clifford B. Bowyer's The Shard of Time Review by: Bookwire Book Reviews Silver Leaf Books, Holliston, MA, $5.99 US, paperback, (192p) ISBN: 0974435430
Like all good heroines, Kyria has accepted her fate. The young heroine of The Shard of Time was once a typical kid from a small, mystical fishing village called Arkham. She seemed average in every way except for one: “In a time of great darkness, when evil sweeps the land, a prophecy foretells the coming of a savior, a child that will defeat the forces of evil and save the world. She is Kyria, the Chosen One.”
Settling into life at The Mage’s Academy wasn’t easy, but this unique place of learning has provided Kyria with some pretty awesome magical tools. Going to school seven days a week is not Kyria's idea of fun, but she quickly discovered there was much to learn.
In The Shard of Time, Kyria turns 13, and this year all anyone talks about is Lumnia, the greatest game in all of the Seven Kingdoms. The annual rivalry between the strongest and most athletic Lumnia teams is to take place at the Academy.
Meanwhile, the mysterious death of an elfin teacher and the discovery of a mystical artifact with the power of time-travel keep Kyria and her friends on a full throttle adventure throughout this fourth book in The Adventures of Kyria series.
The Shard in Time is a focused and plot-driven story. It’s a classic example of the young adult fantasy adventure. Author Clifford Bowyer has created an intricate mystical world and an equally involved plot for Kyria and her friends. Like other Kyria books, The Shard of Time shares several striking similarities with the widely acclaimed Harry Potter novels, and Bowyer has a certain flair for the genre that also compares him with writers such as Tamara Pierce or Mercedes Lackey. Bowyer does an incredible job writing descriptive text. His imagination and sense of adventure are obvious throughout the entire novel, and indeed the entire series, making for fun adventures and easy, enjoyable reads.
Clifford Bowyer is also the author of the Fall of the Imperium Trilogy.
